The bump was hard. One of the stairs broke, and Jasmine suffered injuries all over her body.

– Back behind me, I had come from the stairs there. My whole backside was completely covered in blood.

– An absolutely ungodly lump of leather came off the right hand and it was really painful. There was a red abscess the size of two fists on the side, he lists.

Fractures in the legs

Jasmine headed to the hospital immediately after the accident. His legs were in severe pain.

– I told exactly what happened. I went for a scan and a fracture was found in my right leg.

Jasmine also had pain in her left leg. However, they did not agree to investigate it right away.

The fracture of the other leg only became apparent when he went to the hospital in Helsinki the following week.

– There, the doctor stated that if it had been photographed properly in the beginning, the fractures would have been found immediately.

The heel bones of both of Jasmine’s feet are broken up to the ankle joint. Both of his legs are in casts for eight weeks.

– Moving around at home with crutches is really difficult. In addition, I have to take a long sick leave from my job as a local nurse.

Iltalehti has seen Omakanta data of doctor visits.

“I wouldn’t have believed it”

As a child, Jasmine used to sleepwalk. Now he experienced something similar for the first time as an adult.

– I asked the doctor if this is very common. I got your answer that it is not. I would not have thought that sleepwalking could be so dangerous.

He was sleep deprived at the time of the accident. Fatigue and lack of sleep can be predisposing factors to sleepwalking.

– I had slept only a few hours a night for more than a week, because I had to look after my cat, which had undergone surgery.

– In the future, I will pay attention that such a lack of sleep does not occur.

This is it

Sleepwalking, or parasomnia, is an unexpected and often harmless behavior that occurs during sleep. It is not a disease, but a special feature of sleep.

Any factor that weakens or disturbs sleep, such as a foreign environment, an uncomfortable room, illness, stress or alcohol, can increase sleepwalking.

A sleepwalker usually doesn’t wake up in the middle of anything, and they shouldn’t be woken up during a deep sleep either.

– The wisest thing to do is to guide the sleepwalker back to bed. If a sleepwalker is woken up, he is sleep-deprived and it can take a long time to wake up, said specialist in clinical neurophysiology at Hyks, associate professor I met Salmi For Iltalehti 2015.

A night walker doesn’t remember what he did in the morning. There are no memory traces of it, just like the fact that a person changes their sleeping position 10–15 times at night.

A doctor should always be consulted if sleepwalking is frequent, continues into adolescence or causes injuries, or if it is associated with another illness. Frequent sleepwalking can sometimes be treated with benzodiazepines or antidepressants. Sleepwalking in adults has also sometimes been treated with hypnosis.
