Jarell Quansah was born in Warrington, and came to Liverpool as a five-year-old. We’ve seen him for the age groups, he’s been in the squad three times before, and last season he showed up on loan at Bristol Rovers – but that was at level three in League One.
This summer, the 20-year-old has stepped up, and impressed in pre-season. He climbed past Nat Phillips in the queue for the centre-back position – and came on as a substitute in the games against Newcastle and Aston Villa. That he was to start Saturday’s away game against Wolverhampton came as a surprise.
Ibrahima Konaté was back in training, but Jürgen Klopp still had enough faith in the 20-year-old to put him straight into the team.
That in a defense where Virgil van Dijk, Konaté and Trent Alexander-Arnold were all out. After the game, Klopp was satisfied with the performance of the young defender.
– He did well – very well. It was a good, nice and wonderful experience for him. He has previously come on as a substitute at crucial moments in games – not to kill time or anything like that – but because we needed him, was the verdict of the manager in the post-match press conference.
– Today he was good, I must say, he continued.
🏴 Jarell Quansah definitely showed promising moments for #LFC today.

– The one who got the best out of it
Liverpool did not quite hang together in the first half, but it was rather Joe Gomez and Joel Matip who were directly involved with a negative sign in those problems.
Quansah got the best out of it in the first half, the manager thinks.
– In such a disorganized team as we were in the first half, it is certainly impressive to be the one to come out of it well. We are very happy for him, says the manager.
– He is obviously very happy even at the moment. He is a good boy.
Quansah was down and had to be helped with cramp after 80 minutes and was unable to continue. Ibrahima Konaté came on and replaced him in the 83rd minute.
Liverpool settled the game in their favor with Robertson’s 85th-minute winner and Harvey Elliott’s finish turning in Hugo Bueno a minute from injury time.
