“Japan’s Tourist Boom During Golden Week: Tips for Travelers”

Tokyo

Japan has become a favorite holiday destination for world tourists. This year, don’t be surprised if you go there on vacation, every corner is full of lines.

Quoted from Japan News, Japan is celebrating golden week or a series of national holidays from April 29 to May 5. Not only tourists, domestic tourists also descended on all tourist attractions to celebrate.

Kuil Sensoji di Asakusa, Tokyo so one of them. Tourists and locals wear kimonos while strolling along the shrine.

“I was impressed by all the buildings,” said a Polish student who was there for the first time with his family.

The large number of tourists certainly makes merchants happy. Shin Nakamise, the owner of a fan shop on the street, is one of them.

“The number of foreign tourists is gradually increasing. I hope that everything will return to the way it was before the pandemic soon,” he said.

Like two sides of a coin, this happiness brings vigilance to those who will come to Japan. A Finance Review journalist named Michael Smith provides the latest information.

“My spare room in Tokyo is fully booked for the next six months,” he wrote.

Free rentals or hosting houses are common for backpackers. Apart from helping tourists reduce their vacation budget, hosting houses also help us make lots of new friends.

Returning to the tourist boom in Japan, the latest government data shows 1.8 million foreigners visited Japan in March. Estimates show that April will be visited by 2.9 million tourists, equivalent to April 2019.

This is two-thirds of China’s pre-pandemic and traveler levels. Even Chinese tourists themselves have not come to Japan.

In his journal, Smith stressed that given anecdotal evidence, the government would easily reach its target of hosting 60 million visitors by 2030, almost double the 32 million that came in 2019.

If you are going to come to Japan, be prepared.

“Travellers endured 3 hour long queues at immigration. Tickets to attractions such as the Shibuya Observation Deck and TeamLam Planet were sold out for weeks. There was a line for almost everything,” he wrote.

Small shops and michelin star restaurants are full of tourists. Monk, a small pizza joint in the ancient city of Kyoto, has been buzzing with visitors since appearing in the Netflix documentary. To eat here, you must book two months before arrival.

Not only that, Smith’s favorite ‘secret’ cafe located under a train line in Tokyo was transformed overnight because of Instagram.

For business owners, this is a fortune. But for those who want to go on vacation to Japan, get ready mentally, OK?
