Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Government Japan protesting the ban export coal implemented by Indonesia until January 31, 2022. This was stated in a letter sent by the Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia Kanasugi Kenji.

In the letter, Kenji asked the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to lift the ban. The reason is, the ban will have a serious impact on economic activities and daily life of the country of Sakura.

Understandably, several power plants and Japanese manufacturers rely on coal supplies from Indonesia. Moreover, Japan is currently entering the winter season where coal demand is high.

“Industry in Japan regularly imports coal from Indonesia for power generation and manufacturing (about 2 million tons per month). Therefore, we request to immediately lift the ban on coal exports to Japan,” Kenji wrote in his letter, Wednesday (5/5). /1).

As an alternative, Kenji proposes to keep the tap on exporting high-calorie coal (High Calorific Value/ HCV) used in Japan.

“Japan mostly imports coal type High Calorific Value (HCV) from Indonesia, which is different from coal type Low Calorific Value (LCV) used by PLN generators,” he added.

Until now, Kenji admitted that there are at least 5 coal carriers that are still waiting for departure to Japan. He also specifically requested that the five ships be given permission to depart as soon as possible.

Previously, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources prohibited domestic coal companies from exporting from January 1 to January 31, 2022.

This is done to meet domestic coal needs, especially for power plants owned by PT PLN (Persero).
