According to him, Japan cooperated with other countries at the G7 summit “in actions and joint declarations to denigrate and attack China, grossly interfering in China’s internal affairs, violating the basic principles of international law and the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan,” citing to the China-Japan Joint Statement of 1972.

He also said that Japan’s actions are detrimental to China’s sovereignty, security and development interests, and that China is “strongly dissatisfied and strongly opposed” to these actions.

“Japan should correct its understanding of China, accept strategic autonomy, adhere to the principles of the four policy documents between China and Japan, and truly promote the stable development of bilateral relations with a constructive stance,” Sun said.

Steps by G7 countries to reduce dependence on China

In recent years, a number of the world’s largest economies have been trying to reduce their dependence on China. For this purpose, high-tech industries are transferred to other countries, scientific centers are transferred and the development of industry is stimulated in the G7 countries.

Earlier, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen called for targeted controls on investment in China to counter Beijing’s economic pressure on other countries. Britain’s Treasury Secretary Jeremy Hunt said G7 countries must resist China’s economic coercion.

Wary of China as a strategic rival, Germany fears that it will be seen as the creator of the G7 front against Beijing, given its heavy dependence on trade with that country. Despite this, according to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the G7 countries will continue to invest in the Chinese economy.

In turn, China is increasing its influence in Central Asia. In order to search for new markets and global partners, China organized a large summit for the leaders of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in the Chinese city of Xi’an. The date of the summit coincides with the date of the G7 summit in Japan.
