Jakarta –
Population numbers in Japan continue to decrease, but at the same time Tokyo’s population is becoming increasingly dense. The government also plans to relocate female residents by luring them with money.
Launch News 24, Thursday (29/8/2024), Tokyo’s congestion was not directly proportional to the decline in population in other areas. This situation arose as a result of a decline in local birth rates and the migration of many young people to Tokyo.
So, now the Japanese government wants to balance the population by using very real measures. According to Kyodo’s new service, they even plan to pay 600 thousand yenor about 64 million Rp. The budget is specifically allocated to women who want to move from Tokyo and marry men who live in less populated areas.

Singles who live in the 23 main areas of Tokyo or who commute to work in these areas will receive this benefit.
Currently, the list of selected cities/provinces has not been confirmed. However, the policy will focus on areas at risk of underpopulation, such as rural areas or at least smaller suburban areas.
This extreme measure is not the first time that Japan has offered money to encourage its people to move from Tokyo. Currently there are also grants of up to 600 thousand Yen for individuals or 1 million yen (approx. Rp. 106.8 million) for families in 23 districts of Tokyo or workers traveling to move.
That applies as long as they get a local job, continue to work remotely, or start a new business in their new residence.
However, women do not need to get a job or even have a job to meet these requirements. Interestingly, this allowance can be separate from the 600 thousand Yen allowance for marriage. Therefore, women who move from Tokyo for marriage and work will be able to get both of these benefits.
On the other hand, according to Kyodo’s report, the provision of gender-based grants received strong opinions from the public. Some argue that it indirectly pushes women out of the capital and traps men in.
Nevertheless, the Cabinet Secretariat intends to include funding for this program in the 2025 fiscal year budget, which begins next spring.
