Be careful of heavy snowfall in western Japan this Saturday and Sunday. There is also a risk of heavy snow in the Kanto-Koshin region at the beginning of the week, even in flat areas, so let’s prepare for snow.
Tomorrow, the 3rd, it will rain in Kyushu, Chugoku, and Shikoku.
Tomorrow, the 3rd (Sat: Setsubun), a low pressure system accompanied by a front will form in the East China Sea and approach southern Kyushu. As a result, in Kyushu, the Chugoku region, and Shikoku, the weather is going downhill and it will start raining in the evening, and it is likely to rain in most places by night. In Kagoshima, which is close to a low-pressure area, there will be places where the rain will be strong and accompanied by thunder.
The Pacific side from Kinki to Kanto-Koshin and from Tohoku to Hokkaido will be covered by high pressure and will be mostly sunny. From Hokuriku and Tohoku to the Sea of Japan side of Hokkaido, there will be snow in some places until morning due to the cold air. The snow will stop during the day, and there will be some places where the sun will shine through the clouds.
The maximum temperature is expected to be around 10 to 13 degrees Celsius in many places from Kyushu to Kanto. Today, the 2nd (Friday), it was cloudy and cold, but tomorrow we will be able to feel the warmth of the sunshine. In Hokuriku and Tohoku, the temperature is around 5℃, and in Hokkaido it is below 0℃, so please be careful not to get sick from the cold.
Be careful of heavy snow in Shikoku and Kinki on the 4th
The day after tomorrow, the 4th (Sunday: First Day of Spring), a low pressure system and front are expected to move south of Honshu. In Shikoku and the Kinki region, snow and rain are expected to fall into the morning, with the possibility of heavy snow especially along the mountains. From the evening of the 3rd to the evening of the 4th, there is a risk of snow falling as much as 10 centimeters on the plains and 20 centimeters on the mountains. Road conditions may worsen and transportation may be disrupted. Be sure to take your actions with plenty of time, and consider revising your plans if necessary.
It will continue to rain in Kyushu and the Chugoku region until around noon, and it is likely to snow in some places. You also need to be careful about snow at high altitudes. From the Tokai region to the Kanto region, many places will be sunny, but they will be affected by a trough in the atmospheric pressure. It looks like there will be temporary snow and rain in some places, mainly along the mountains. Please be careful if you are planning to go out.
Hokuriku, Tohoku, and Hokkaido are expected to have clear skies over a wide area.
The maximum temperature will be around 12℃ from Kyushu to Tokai, and around 7 to 9℃ in Kanto, Tohoku, and Hokuriku. The temperature in Hokkaido is expected to be around 0℃.
There is a risk of heavy snow even in the flatlands of the Kanto region by the end of the week.
Be careful of heavy snow in the Kanto-Koshin region at the beginning of next week. A low pressure system is expected to pass near the southern coast of the Kanto region. Starting the week on the 5th (Monday), snow and rain will gradually begin to fall in Koshin, and it will be widespread in the Kanto region from the evening onwards. By night, temperatures are expected to drop enough to cause snow to fall even in the plains. Although the forecast is still subject to change, there is a risk of snow accumulating even in flat areas, and there is a possibility that transportation may be disrupted during rush hours on the morning of the 6th (Tuesday). It’s a good idea to prepare for snow this weekend.
How to walk on snowy roads
After snow piles up, even the roads you usually drive on will be in different conditions than usual. The following precautions should be taken when walking.
(1) Even if it’s cold, it’s very dangerous to put your hands in your pockets or use your smartphone while walking. If you can’t use your hands, you won’t be able to respond to sudden movements, and if you fall, you could be seriously injured, so please never do this.
(2) Try not to hold your luggage in your hands as much as possible. We recommend a bag that you can carry on your back, such as a backpack. Keeping your hands free will help prevent injury in an emergency.
(3) Wear clothing that will prevent you from hitting your body too hard if you fall. Thick clothing not only protects you from the cold, but also acts as a cushion.
(4) Wear clothes made from water-repellent materials that do not easily get wet. If your clothes get wet, your body will get cold easily.
(5) When walking, take as short a stride as possible and step your feet straight down. Remember, if you walk like a penguin, you will be less likely to fall.
