Japanese scientists calculate the effectiveness of Pfizer’s COVID vaccine

The effectiveness of the vaccine is 85-96%

Experts analyzed data from more than 10 thousand people infected with coronavirus, most of whom were not vaccinated.

In Japan, experts at Kyoto University found that Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine is 85-96% effective. Such data was announced on Sunday, September 12, by the local TV channel NHK.

The study was conducted by scientists this summer. They analyzed the data of more than 10 thousand people infected during that period, most of whom were not vaccinated.

In addition, the experts emphasized that their work was carried out during the period of the powerful spread of the COVID Delta strain in Japan, and suggested that the vaccine is quite effective against this variant of infection.

Thus, according to the conclusions of experts, the effectiveness of the Pfizer vaccine is:

  • among men aged 20-60 years – 89.6-93.4%;

  • among men over 60 years old – 94.7-96.9%;

  • among women aged 20 to 60 years – 85.4-91.8%;

  • among women over 60 years old – 92.6-96.1%.

According to the TV channel, about half of Japan’s residents are already vaccinated against COVID-19. The country’s authorities are purchasing vaccines from AstraZeneca, Pfizer / BioNTech and Moderna.

Recall that in Japan at least two people died after immunization against coronavirus with a defective vaccine manufactured by Moderna.
