Japanese Rescue Teams Recover Debris from Missing Black Hawk Helicopter

Jakarta, IDM – Japanese rescue teams have recovered some debris from a UH-60JA Black Hawk Helicopter a day after it disappeared from radar with 10 crew members on board during a reconnaissance mission off Miyako Island, Friday (7/4).

Reported from AP, Friday (7/4), ten Japanese military troops consisting of two pilots, two mechanics and six crew members were in the helicopter and disappeared from radar on Thursday, April 6, at around 16:00 local time.

Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada revealed that his party promised to continue the search for victims who have not been found. Meanwhile, some debris, such as a door and a lifeboat, was seen floating not far from the crash site.

“We conducted search and rescue operations in the area all night, but we have yet to find General Yuichi Sakamoto of the Army 8th Division as well as nine other people. We will make every effort to find the 10 missing people,” he said.

Furthermore, he expressed his deep sorrow and will make every effort to find the victims. Until now, there is no known indication of what caused the accident.

“In order to save everyone who was in the helicopter as soon as possible, we will continue to do our best using ships and aircraft from the navy and air force,” he explained. (bp)
