Japanese princess gives up million to marry ‘common man’

29-year-old Mako wants to marry a college classmate, Kei Komuro. Their engagement was announced in 2017.

But then postponement followed postponement due to hassles over Komuro’s family’s finances. Now the lovers are choosing not to wait any longer, Reuters reports. They waive the ‘fuck up premium’ to which the princess is entitled.

Female members of the Imperial family lose their title if they marry a ‘common man’. They will receive a one-off allowance of 150 million yen (converted 1.1 million euros) in return. Mako is now letting that allowance go.

The couple would like to live in the United States after marriage. Komuro also lived there. He studied there until last May.

Fuss about ponytail

In addition to the financial situation, Komuro’s appearance also caused a stir. His ponytail went down badly with many users on Japanese social media.
