After the Japanese government’s export restrictions, the localization of semiconductor materials in Korea has progressed, and related Japanese companies have been shown to have suffered a major blow.
According to the Nippon Geizai Shimbun, Japan’s exports of hydrogen fluoride to Korea last year decreased by 75% compared to the previous year.
Compared to before the Japanese government tightened export regulations in July 2019, it decreased by 90%.
This is because Korean material companies have started supplying high-purity hydrogen fluoride, a semiconductor material that was dependent on Japanese companies, to Samsung Electronics.
The newspaper evaluated that “the movement of localization of advanced materials and equipment is steadily progressing in Korea with the Japanese government’s export control measures.”
