The school was founded in 1978;[2] Before moving to Prandaugasse, the school building was at Sieveringer Strasse 17 in Vienna-Döbling.
Japanese Schools Abroad are full-time schools for Japanese-speaking children funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Japan). It is intended as a school for children of Japanese emigrants who are engaged in diplomatic, business or teaching activities in Austria and who live temporarily in Austria but intend to return to Japan. Because the same curriculum is taught as in schools in Japan, students will not fall behind if they return to Japan.
22 students and 13 female students are currently being taught.
