Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa’s Visit to Ukraine and Japan’s Financial Assistance

Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa arrived in Ukraine on a visit on January 6. As noted in the Japanese Foreign Ministry, in particular, she will hold negotiations with the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Dmitry Kuleba.

During her trip abroad, Kamikawa will visit several European countries, as well as the United States. The visit to Ukraine was not announced in advance.

Earlier, on December 21, Japan transferred $950 million to Ukraine for the restoration of destroyed infrastructure and social support. The day before, the Japanese Finance Minister Sunni Suzuki announced that the country will provide Ukraine with an additional package of financial assistance in the amount of $4.5 billion.

December 7 Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kisida previously stated that out of $4.5 billion, $1 billion would be used to restore infrastructure, the rest would be used to fulfill guarantees on loans allocated to Kyiv by the World Bank.

Prior to this, on November 28, the Japanese leadership announced that it plans to help Ukraine in the field of mine clearance and cybersecurity.
