Many state cultural institutes also make cinematic offers during the pandemic. So now the Japan Foundation. Since January it has been offering an online festival under the name Japan Foundation Festival Plus. In addition to older and newer feature films and documentaries, the program also includes short films. The program is offered free of charge in 20 countries according to geographical zones and with a time limit. The films are subtitled in the respective national language. Technically, the streaming service is offered by Shift72 (NZ).
In Germany, JFF Plus starts on February 26th and ends on March 7th. Access is free after registering an email address. Every day two other full-length films and one short film are presented from 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., which are activated for 24 hours after logging in.
The Japanese Film Festival (JFF) is a Japan Foundation project to promote Japanese cinema around the world. With the slogan “Japanese Film Anytime, Anywhere” the program was started in 2016 for 10 ASEAN countries and Australia as a touring film program. The network has now been expanded. In 2019-20 there were screenings in 56 cities in 12 countries. This year’s online edition “JFF Plus” is technically supported by SHIFT72 (NZ).
