Laser Digital, the cryptocurrency arm of Japan’s Nomura Corporation, said on Tuesday it has secured a license to operate in Dubai, becoming the latest of a number of financial institutions to enter the cryptocurrency space this year.
Laser Digital, which is headquartered in Switzerland and has offices in Dubai and London, added in a statement that it has obtained a license from the Dubai Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority, which allows it to provide brokerage, management and investment services related to cryptocurrencies.
Laser Digital indicated that it will launch trading and asset management activities in the coming months, allowing investors direct access to cryptocurrency trading services and other investment products.
Last month, the French bank Societe Generale became the first company in France to obtain a license for cryptocurrency services, which highlights the desire of banks to enter this field with the recovery of markets during 2023.
This comes, while Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency by market value, has risen by about 75% since the beginning of this year.
