The Japanese Coast Guard Organization has confirmed Kazuki Takahashi’s death as an accident at sea. In their statement, they said the artist went into the water to help a girl and then disappeared.

They also acknowledged knowing the tidal tide situation earlier this summer. Unfortunately he did not announce it to the public.

According to Stars and Stripes, the magazine spoke with US Army major Robert Bourgeau, who was honored last fall for his role in rescuing civilians. The certified diving soldier said the current trapped a young girl with her mother, as well as other US soldiers.

During the rescue, the mangaka goes into the water to help, although Bourgeau does not know the extent of his help.

Another US soldier claimed to have seen Kazuki Takahashi enter the water trying to save the victim. But after that he disappeared again.

After two days of searching, the body of Kazuki Takahashi was found by the authorities. Fans learned of the news of his death not long after. Now the American soldier is praising the cartoonist’s actions.

The news of Kazuki Takahashi’s death last July shocked international manga lovers. He is best known as the creator of the Yu-Gi-Oh! from 16 to 2004 which was successfully adapted into anime and live action series. He also drew The Comiq manga to commemorate Shonen Jump magazine’s 50th anniversary in 2018.
