Japanese authorities confirm infection of Portuguese crew member – Jornal Económico

Japanese officials confirmed today that Portuguese Adriano Maranhão, a plumber on the ship Princess Princess, docked in the port of Yokohama, tested positive for the Covid-19 coronavirus, an official source from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Lusa.

“It was confirmed by the Japanese health authorities that the person concerned tested positive. The family is informed, as is the family ”, reveals a source from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a note sent to the Lusa agency.

According to the same source, the ministry is “urging local authorities to transfer them to the referral hospital” in Japan.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Saturday that it was monitoring the situation of a Portuguese crew member of the Japanese ship Diamond Princess who is said to have been infected with Covid-19, but admitted that it does not yet have information from the Japanese authorities.

The ministry “is in contact with the Japanese authorities” through the embassy in Tokyo, and is monitoring “the evolution of the results of the tests that are being carried out,” said the ministry’s office in a statement sent to Lusa.

“We still do not have information from the Japanese authorities that there is any confirmed case of infection with the coronavirus, among the Portuguese crew of the ship Diamond Princess”,

The ministry led by Augusto Santos Silva added that he was also accompanying “the Portuguese crew and their families”.

The wife of one of the crew of the Princess Cruises’ ship, docked in the port of Yokohama (Japan), told Lusa today that her husband was diagnosed “positive” with the new coronavirus.

The Portuguese, Adriano Maranhão, is, according to his wife, a plumber for the ship and was only tested two days ago, having been placed in an isolated cabin about eight hours ago.
