Soichi Noguchi, Japanese astronaut from Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) sent a message to Brazil directly from International Space Station (ISS). The video was uploaded exclusively to Twitter.
“I heard that the Nikkei community (Japanese descendants) in Brazil has about 2 million people and that they have gained a high degree of trust in Brazilian society, due to their diligence and honesty in these more than 110 years of history”, said the astronaut in the message .

“In the face of suffering with the new coronavirus, we want to be a force for the world to be able to reestablish itself. I believe that everyone in Brazil is facing a difficult situation, but I also continue my challenges in space. So, I would like you to also try a new challenge. We will do our best together ”, he adds.

“Japan and Brazil, because they are located on opposite sides of the Earth, may appear to be physically distant from each other. But looking through space, I feel the two countries are very close together ”, concludes Noguchi.
The astronaut message to Brazil is part of the Brazil-Japan Special Week, organized by Japan House, in São Paulo. The special takes place this week, starting this Monday (5) and ending on Sunday (11).
Noguchi is a member of expedition 64 of the International Space Station. He arrived in space in October 2020. The astronaut is due to return to Earth only in April, by expedition 65, along with four more astronauts from the USA and two others from Russia.
