Tokio. Bosses who are worried about employee turnover or wondering how long they will stay on the job will soon be able to rely on artificial intelligence (AI) to know which employee is likely to leave the company next.
This tool was developed by Japanese researchers to help companies provide targeted support to their employees, in order to discourage them from quitting.
Employee data, from work attendance to personal information such as age and gender, is analyzed using this tool created by a Tokyo City University professor with a local startup.
The tool also analyzes data on former employees who have left the company.
From all this data, the system predicts the resignation rate of new recruits in percentage, explains the Afp el profesor Naruhiko Shiratori.
“We are in the testing phase with this AI tool in several companies, creating a model for each of them,” adds the researcher.
Bosses could use the results to “suggest to the high-risk (resignation) employee – without showing them the raw results that might surprise them – that the company is willing to offer support, because the AI predicts that they ‘might face difficulties,'” he says. Shiratori.
To create this tool, the researchers built on a previous study that used AI to predict the profile of college students likely to drop out.
Japanese companies traditionally hire young graduates at the same time each year, in April.
But about 10 percent of these new workers leave their jobs in the first year, and about 30 percent after three years, according to government data.
Japanese companies are increasingly seeking to take care of their young employees in a context of accelerated demographic decline in the Japanese archipelago, which is generating labor shortages in many sectors of activity.
