Japan registered more than 8,000 deaths from coronavirus so far in January, representing a new record for deaths in a month since the start of the pandemic, it was officially reported.
The Ministry of Health reported the death of 326 people in the last 24 hours, bringing the number of fatalities from the disease to 8,103 so far in January.
The death rate from Covid-19 has increased dramatically since the beginning of last December.
Prime Minister Fumio Kishida asked the Ministry of Health on Friday to reclassify Covid-19 during the coming spring, which will begin in March.
Currently, this disease is considered class 2, like tuberculosis and avian influenza, and Kishida postulated raising it to class 5, like seasonal flu.
