TOKYO (AP) – Japan has begun requiring COVID-19 tests for all passengers arriving from China as an emergency measure against rising infections. Japan is facing rising case numbers and record-high deaths. The country recorded a record 420 new coronavirus deaths on Thursday. This is one day after hitting a previous single-day record of 415 deaths. The number of daily deaths is higher than a previous wave’s peak in August, when they passed 300. Experts say the reason for the latest rise is unclear but could be linked to worsening chronic diseases among patients older. Japan is now reporting around 200,000 known daily cases.
