Japan removes tsunami warning triggered by Mount Semeru eruption

TOKYO, KOMPAS.com – Japan revoke any warning tsunami triggered by the eruption Mount Semeru in Indonesia, Sunday (4/11/2022).

The update was made by the Japan Meteorological Agency after it previously warned of a possible tsunami.

Public broadcasting agency NHK quoted the Japan Meteorological Agency as saying there was no tsunami impact from the volcanic eruption in Indonesia.

Earlier, the Japan Meteorological Agency said it was monitoring the possibility of a subsequent tsunami Mount Semeru eruptsas reported Reuters.

Tsunami Due to the eruption of Mount Semeru, it was expected to reach Okinawa Prefecture no earlier than 2:30 PM Japanese time.

However, now the Japan Meteorological Agency has said that there was no tsunami impact due to the eruption of Mount Semeru.

This eruption also coincides with one year since the eruption of Semeru on December 4, 2021.

The Mount Semeru eruption also launched a gray column of ash from the crater summit with moderate to thick intensity up to 1.5 km from the crater summit at 0256 WIB.

In terms of seismicity, the seismograph recorded eight eruptions with an amplitude of 18-22 mm and a duration of 65-120 seconds.

The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) has called on residents not to do anything in the southeastern sector along Besuk Kobokan, 13 kilometers from the summit.
