This latest corruption scandal involves the largest faction within the LDP, which was previously led by the late former PM Shinzo Abe before he was assassinated last year. The same faction is led by Kishida at this time.
A report by Japan’s leading daily, Asahi Shimbun, said Kishida allegedly failed to declare more than 20 million Yen in the three years up to 2020. Kishida, in a statement issued a day earlier, said he would address the allegations “head-on.”
“I am making enthusiastic efforts and leading the LDP to restore the community’s trust,” he stressed to local reporters.
