[Sports News]The 2023 World Men’s Volleyball League (VNL) is in full swing in Gdansk, Poland. The Japanese men’s volleyball national team known as “Nippon the Dragon” is coming aggressively this year. After defeating its rival Brazil in the preliminary round 33 years ago, it defeated Slovenia 3-0 on Thursday (20th). It was the first time in the team’s history that it entered the semi-finals. The Japanese team will draw with the host Poland at 11:00 pm Hong Kong time today (23rd) to compete for a place in the final.

The Japanese men’s volleyball team broke into the top 8 of the VNL for the first time last year. Unfortunately, the semi-final captain Yuki Ishikawa was absent due to injury and eventually lost to France. However, he still broke the team’s best result in fifth place. A year later, the Japanese army made a comeback and set a record of 10 consecutive victories in the preliminary round. It broke the curse of more than 30 years and defeated Brazil for the first time in an official game. They only lost in the last two games against Poland and Italy, the top two in the world. With 10 wins and 2 losses, they advanced to the top 8 in the preliminary round. Tian Youzhi, Takahashi Lan and Yamamoto Tomoda fought against the enemy.

Ishikawa Yuki scored a game-high 27 points and became the hero of the victory.

The Japanese team won the VNL top 4 tickets for the first time, and at the same time wrote the record of the first Asian national team to enter the top 4 since the establishment of the event. The two-day VNL top 4 will start today. First, Japan will challenge the host Poland, and tomorrow (23rd) the United States will take on Italy.
