Everyone knows there is a World Cup for football, or for basketball, or for other sports, but for there to be a World Cup for collecting garbage, it might be strange.
“Spogumi” is a new sport invented by Japan and turned into a global competition, in which many teams from different countries will compete on the first of November.
The story began when garbage collection in Japan became a “popular game” in 2008, and it turned into a local and then international competition, called “Spogumi”, which is an abbreviation of the words “sport”, meaning sports, and “gumi”, meaning garbage in Japanese.
What is new about this year is its transformation into a global competition, as Japan is preparing to launch the World Cup in garbage collection, on the first of next November.
Garbage World Cup
- 20 teams from several countries participate in the competition.
- Among the participating countries: the United States, Canada, South Africa, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines.
- The interesting thing is the participation of an Arab country, namely Egypt.
- The duration of the competition is only one hour.
- Each team includes from 3 to 5 players.
What is the point of the game?
