Japan Expresses Concerns about Russia’s Flight Restrictions in Black Sea and their Impact on Global Food Supply

According to Kyodo News, at a press conference on July 20, Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno Hiroichi pointed out that he was “concerned about the impact on global food supply” regarding Russia’s principle that ships are not allowed to enter the ports of Ukraine, a grain exporter, via the Black Sea. On the other hand, he clarified that it would not immediately affect domestic wheat sales prices in Japan. Matsuno emphasized that “we strongly urge Russia to return to the international framework and restart grain exports from Ukraine.” He also said that “the current international wheat market is in an unstable state” and he will pay attention to its trends.
