The Japanese government is offering about 1 million yen or the equivalent of Rp. 117 million (exchange rate of Rp. 117) per child for families who are willing to relocate from Tokyo city. This figure is up from the previous amount of just 300,000 yen per child.
According to Kyodo News on Thursday (29/12/2022), sources said that this new rule will be enacted starting from April 2023. This incentive was launched by the government as one of the strategies to reduce population concentration in Tokyo , which is the capital of Japan.
People living among the 23 boroughs of Tokyo are eligible for this relocation incentive. This includes those living in the central metropolitan area, to those traveling there from the surrounding area, including the Saitama, Chiba and Kanagawa areas.
Not only that, the beneficiary must reside in the participating municipality for at least five years while working. Currently, a total of around 1,300 municipalities have participated in the relocation support program during the current fiscal year.
Thereafter, the candidate for the new home city must be located outside the metropolitan area and its environs and receive grants during 2023. However, mountainous areas in and around Tokyo can also be destinations if the requirements are met. conditions.
If an eligible couple with two children under the age of 18 moves and sets up a business in the new residential area, they will receive financial assistance of up to 5 million yen.
The program started in fiscal year 2019 and recorded 2,381 people who moved out of the metropolitan area using financial support during fiscal year 2021. Half of the support provided by municipalities accepting this migration is paid by the state .
