Authority Japan has deployed fighter jets in recent days as Chinese warplanes land and take off from a Chinese aircraft carrier deployed near southern Japan and Taiwan.
The aircraft carrier Shandong has been moving in waters southeast of Taiwan along the way China responding to the meeting between the president of Taiwan and the chairman of the United States House of Representatives.
Reported by the news agency AFPMonday (10/4/2023), in a statement, Japan’s joint staff said it had observed the Shandong and several other Chinese naval vessels in the area south of the island of Miyako since last Friday.

“We confirmed about 120 landings and departures on the Chinese Navy’s Kuznetsov-class aircraft carrier Shandong, 80 times by fighters and 40 times by helicopters,” the statement said.
It said Japanese troops mobilized two escort groups to monitor the Chinese ships and “Air Force fighter jets in response to the landing and take-off of the fighter jets on board the Shandong”.
Japan’s Defense Ministry said this was the first time the Japanese military had confirmed the Shandong operation in the Pacific Ocean through direct supervision.
