Japan will consider allowing Japanese Patriot missiles to be shipped to Europe and other countries, which could help Ukraine in its war against Russia.

Details: The Japanese government will update its defense export guidelines as early as Friday.
This will allow the delivery of missiles and other equipment manufactured under license to the countries where the patent holders are located. Currently, only licensed hardware components can be shipped to the United States.
According to Nikkei Asia, Japan will also allow recipient countries to transfer equipment to third countries with prior consent, excluding those actively involved in armed conflict, such as Ukraine and Israel.
While this would prevent Washington from directly sending Japanese-made Patriot missiles to Kyiv, it would give the United States more room to continue supplying Ukraine with American-made weapons.
As a first step, Japan’s National Security Council plans to approve shipments of Patriot missiles to the United States later this year. Washington has requested supplies as its supplies are running low.
Patriot missiles are currently used by Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, Mark Cancian, a senior adviser at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, said in an October report.
The US could provide supplies to these countries, “but with some difficult trade-offs later,” Cancian said.
