An airline plane Japan Airlines caught fire on the runway at Haneda Airport in Tokyo, Japan, on Tuesday (2/1) local time. The Airbus passenger plane reportedly collided with a Japanese coast guard plane after landing at the airport.
As reported AFPTuesday (2/1/2024), Japan’s leading television show, NHKshows the Japan Airlines plane moving rapidly along the runway before an explosion ignites flames on the plane’s undercarriage.
Report NHK said the Japan Airlines plane that experienced the incident had flight number 516 which took off from New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido to Haneda Airport in Tokyo.
According to reports NHKthe Japan Airlines Airbus type aircraft collide with another plane, which is thought to be a plane belonging to the Japanese Coast Guard Authority. The collision occurred after Japan Airlines landed on the runway at Haneda Airport.
The cause of the incident is not yet clear.
It is not known how many passengers were on board the passenger plane. However, reports said the passengers were rushed to evacuate the plane.
There has been no official statement from Japanese authorities regarding this incident.
Local television footage showed flames shooting out of the plane’s windows and nose, with firefighters trying to extinguish it. Extinguishing efforts are still ongoing at the location.
There was also burning debris on the runway.
