Japan Airlines decided to cancel the flight because the pilot was drunk and making noise at the hotel. The police were involved in the incident.
Reporting from Independent, on Tuesday (30/4/2024) the police got involved after they were contacted by the hotel staff. In the report to the police, it was revealed that a pilot was drunk at the hotel bar in Dallas, USA, the bar at the hotel where the pilot was staying.
The airline said, without naming the pilot, that the 49-year-old pilot began drinking while dining with other cabin crew at a restaurant after landing at Port- Haneda airport, Tokyo Monday (29/4). Then he took part in the hotel lounge and continued in the room.
The pilot’s party activities disturbed other visitors. The staff even warned.
On Tuesday (30/4) at around 02.00, the hotel staff called the police because the pilot continued to make noise and disturb other guests.
Although the pilot did not break Japan Airlines guidelines, which prohibit drinking within 12 hours of boarding a plane, he was still banned from flying as a precaution.
The airline said they had canceled the flight to check the captain’s physical and mental condition and needed time to arrange a replacement. However, the airline was unable to find a new pilot for the 11:05 departure.
Eventually, 157 passengers were transferred to the American Airlines flight.
The airline later apologized to passengers for any inconvenience caused by the pilot’s inappropriate behaviour.
