January Weather Forecast for Bulgaria: Average Monthly Temperature and Precipitation, According to NIMH

The average monthly temperature in January is expected to be around normal. In Northern Bulgaria and the high fields, it is between minus 2° and 1°, along the Black Sea, in the Upper Thracian lowland and the valley of the Struma River – from 0° to 4°, and in the mountainous regions – between minus 10° and minus 3°.

This is indicated by the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH).

The lowest temperatures in January will be between minus 13° and minus 8°, along the Black Sea – around minus 3°, and the highest – between 13° and 18°.

The monthly amount of precipitation will be around and above the norm, which is between 30 and 70 l/sq.m. In January, the dynamics of atmospheric processes over the Balkan Peninsula will be increased.

The month will begin with warm and dry weather, around the third of January the probability of precipitation increases, in the mountains – of snow.

In the second half of the first ten days there is an increased probability of the passage of a Mediterranean cyclone and the creation of a rainy situation. Precipitation will be significant in places. Temperatures will drop and in Northern and Western Bulgaria the rain will turn to snow.

On most days of the second ten days the weather will be dynamic with frequent precipitation – in Northern and Western Bulgaria mainly from snow, and in the Upper Thracian lowland and along the Black Sea – from rain, which will turn into snow on separate days. Temperatures will be close, in places, and below normal.

During the third ten-day period, the temperatures will be close to usual. Precipitation conditions are more likely at the beginning and middle of the period.
