January of the Third: A New Novel by Lillian Fouad Samaan

The “Poet of Al-Fayhaa Saba Zureiq Cultural Foundation” published a new book entitled: “January of the Third” by the novelist Lillian Fouad Samaan, in 247 pages of regular size.

The novelist Semaan introduced her first book by saying: “I have loved the Arabic language since I was young… Attempts to write prose and even poetry began with scribbles on papers that chronicled teenage feelings, then female emotions, and ended the journey of her journey with writing the novel… January… and it had a serious beginning.” “It is wonderful, and perhaps there will be others in the future.”

She added: “In it, I conveyed images of people from my imagination, their movements, thoughts, experiences, feelings, and even their falls… and how much pleasure I felt conveying their feelings, with their various characters, on the pages of my book.”

She concludes: “While I was telling this story, I realized more and more that contradictions and differences of opinion between people living under the same roof are inevitable phenomena in all homes… in all countries… in all civilizations.”

The head of the Arab Philosophical Union, Dr. Mustafa Al-Hilweh, presented the book by saying: “January 3 reviews many issues and scenes, both sweet and bitter. Its events take place between France and Tripoli (Lebanon), and it is filled with a number of characters (heroes), some of whom play a fundamental and central role, while others remain… The sidelines of events, and contribute to a limited extent in creating these events.”

« “January” puts us in the face of a Tripolitan family living in Paris for the sake of work, similar to tens of thousands of Lebanese families searching for opportunities for a decent living that they did not have in their home country, which is suffering from crises that reproduce crises, at various levels.

She adds: “This Tripoli family consists of two parents: Camille and Aline, who are close and in love. They pledged to remain together, with only death separating them. These parents have two twin sons, a male and a female, who are twenty years old. Hassan is an employee in a company that works in the field of developing and evaluating industrial materials used in natural and pharmaceutical technology. His work center is in Belgium, and before that he was in Paris. As for the female, she is Nelly, who has an angelic face that has been hardened by time. She suffers from autism and has become almost paralyzed as a result of a car accident, which she was exposed to while she was pursuing her permanent treatment in a permanent residence in a hospital health center…”

In this atmosphere, the events of the novel continue, both sweet and bitter!
