I suspect it will also be the end of support for Microsoft Security Essentials antivirus i.e. Windows 8.1 Defender which Microsoft released for Windows 7 (because the one that comes with 7 does not protect against viruses).
The old laptop from 2005 that a relative of mine still uses has Microsoft Security Essentials in Windows 7 installed by me and last month I checked how it’s still up to date.
I like Windows 8.1 more than 7. It’s more up-to-date and runs the same or faster than 7. It’s a matter of getting used to its interface.
Will support for Windows 8.1 and Microsoft Security Essentials end on January 10, 2023 or will it be extended?
Will Edge continue to update on Windows 7 and 8.1? In my humble opinion, Edge is better for older computers.
Either way, if Windows 7 is still in shape with 3 years of no support, we still have Windows 8.1 for a while for those of us who use it.
