Weser thrower Karina Jansen broke three Latvian youth records in Pärnu on Saturday, reports the Latvian Athletics Union (LVS).

On Saturday, the traditional hammer throw competition took place in the Estonian city of Pärnu. Shortly before this competition, at the age of 64, the Estonian record-breaking hammer thrower Jiri Tamms had gone to eternity, so the competition was also a memorial event for the outstanding Estonian athlete.

While starting in the girls’ (U-16) age group, Jansena, a student of Vaira Kumerman, a student of Ķekava, the Latvian record holder in hammer throwing, corrected her Latvian record. She threw a three-kilogram hammer at a distance of 60.25 meters, correcting her own Latvian girls’ and young people’s (U-18) record by nine centimeters. Currently, her result is 39th in the world (35th in Europe).

She also started with juniors, who threw a four-kilogram hammer and here she also has a new record for Latvian girls (U-16) – 52.38 meters. She actually started in Pärnu in the U-16 age group.

Born on May 13, 2006, Jansen will start in the U-18 age group next year and hopes to participate in the European Youth (U-18) Championship. The qualification standard (60 meters) of the previous canceled championship has also been exceeded twice. In the boys’ (U-16) age group, another Kumerman student – Mark Volobujev – won. He sent a four-kilogram hammer 43.10 meters away, which is also the best result in the U-16 age group this year.
