János Árpád Potápi: national politics is unthinkable without children and young people

Árpád János Potápi participated in the 16th Dr. Nándor Urmánczy Memorial Day in the small town in Hargita County, where he was awarded the Nándor Urmánczy Award.

In his acceptance speech, he emphasized that the Hungarian government, the State Secretariat for National Policy, works for those who have remained in their homeland, and through its work over the past 12 years, it has greatly improved the demographic indicators.

We have also achieved success here in Transylvania, but we have not yet achieved a resounding success, so we cannot sit back

– said the State Secretary for National Policy.

He emphasized:

they work for those “who chose to stay”, so that there are as many of them as possible.

He recalled that these issues were also discussed at the demographic summit in Budapest, and it is no consolation that the demographic situation in the entire Western world is problematic.

Meanwhile, many children are being born in Africa, which was also typical of Székely families a hundred years ago

he pointed out.

Emigration was typical even a hundred years ago, only then three out of ten children left

said János Árpád Potápi. He emphasized that the phenomenon cannot be eliminated, it is necessary to live with it and change the situation so that despite the phenomenon, Hungarians will grow.

This is a very difficult task, he said, adding that demographic indicators have improved a lot in the last 12 years, but a breakthrough success is yet to come.

There is no point in the current work if we cannot achieve this resounding success in the near future – and not in the distant future –

said the state secretary.

János Árpád Potápi thanked the award and the support of his colleagues, adding that a

award actually belongs to the Hungarian government, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

He explained that the award is also about the donating community, since the Urmánczy family is part of the identity of the people of Maroshévíz, a kind of trademark of the city.
