The construction of the Roman Catholic church handed over in the settlement in the Léva district, where about a third is inhabited by Hungarians, began in 2016. The church was built with a significant contribution from the local government and Hungarian high priests, donations from private individuals and public donations, as well as HUF 52.8 million support from the State Secretariat for National Policy.
The state secretary said: the most important task of the Hungarian government in the past 12-13 years was to strengthen the communities in Hungary and the Carpathian Basin. He pointed out:
this can be achieved if the local communities formulate goals that can be supported and realized together, and church renovations and constructions are also considered such goals, which both strengthen the community.
He added: years ago in Tompá, which has a mixed population in the southern part of the Highlands, the community, Hungarians and Slovaks, formulated the goal of building a new church.
From then on, the southern bell will not only remind us of one of the greatest victories of the Hungarian nation, the victory in Nándorfehérvár, but also that we won a great victory here in Tompá, because the church was completed, which we will consecrate together
– declared János Árpád Potápi at the dedication of the church.
