And the podcast Janny about incentives from Omroep MAX and NPO 1, Janny van der Heijden investigates how we are influenced daily in our eating habits. Every day we make about 200 food choices: consciously and unconsciously. The food industry, supermarkets and advertisements also play a useful role in this. All our senses are put to work. How are we tempted to make (un)healthy choices every day? And how can you use this stimulation to make healthy choices? In 5 episodes, 5 senses are discussed. In this episode: the ears.
Sense 3: the ears
In the 3rd episode of Janny about stimuli, Janny van der Heijden focuses on the ears and the auditory temptations we face every day. A crunchy chip that cracks between the teeth not only gives a pleasant mouthfeel. It also sounds good, because it tells us that the chips are fresh.
Influence of ambient noise
Sound in the environment also has a great influence. For example, loud music in a restaurant can distract from what we have in front of us. But a nice, quiet, (French) music enhances the experience of that classic red wine. How are these stimulations of our ears played with? And how are we also influenced in our eating choices?
Our ears and nutrition
For this episode too, Janny turns to taste professor Peter Klosse, chef Niven Kunz, behavioral scientist Roel Hermans, researcher Coosje Dijkstra and internist, endocrinologist and professor of obesity Liesbeth van Rossum for answers. In addition, baker Cas Wolters tells what it’s like not being able to hear, and writer and columnist Hassnae Bouazza thinks back to the sounds of her childhood in Morocco.
