Top favorite Jannik Sinner won the ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam on Sunday. In an entertaining final in Ahoy, the 22-year-old Italian was too strong for Alex de Minaur (ATP-11) 7-5 and 6-4.

Sinner, number four in the world and seeded first for the tournament in Rotterdam, was the towering favorite prior to the final.

The Italian made the difference for the first time in the fifth game of the set, which the Australian had started. De Minaur came back to 5-5 after a very long tenth game. Sinner was not upset, immediately placed a rebreak and then held his own serve: 7-5.

In the second set the game continued to waver back and forth. The turning point turned out to be a break by the Italian with a 3-3 score in games. With some great points, Sinner reached match point in the tenth game of the second set.

The first match point was an immediate hit, when De Minaur had no answer to Sinner’s strong serve. The Italian thus won the 51st edition of the ABN AMRO Open.

The reigning Australian Open winner qualified for the final of the Rotterdam tournament on Saturday by beating Tallon Greek Spoor 6-2 and 6-4. It was the second year in a row that Sinner was in the final battle. In 2023 he defeated Daniil Medvedev in the final.
