Jannik Sinner vs Daniil Medvedev: Australian Open Final Goes to Fifth Set – Historic Showdown in Unprecedented Grand Slam Match

Jannik Sinner managed to recover against Daniil Medvedev in the final of the Australian Open and forced the fifth set after having lost the first two (6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 4-6). The Russian and the Italian are deciding this Sunday who will win the first Grand Slam of the season in an unprecedented final. Since 2005, when Lleyton Hewitt succumbed to Marat Safin, all the Australian Open finals have featured Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic. Up to 18 finals in this time, in which he only once did not win one of the Big Three (Stan Wawrinka, 2014). With ten victories in that period, Djokovic, world number one, was unable to access the title match in this edition, defeated by the Italian Sinner, who destroyed him at the age of 22 and reached his first Grand Slam final. Opposite him he will have Medvedev, in his sixth major final (third in Australia), with a record of only one win, the 2021 US Open against Djokovic, and four defeats (two against the Serbian, two against Nadal). The Russian goes to his third final in Melbourne with six hours more time on the court than his opponent, after turning around two sets down in the semifinals against the German Alexander Zverev.
