Sinner doesn’t control the forehand on the first 15, instead he widens the game well in depth to equalize, finds the ace n. 2 to put the nose forward and force Medvedev’s error for 40-15. He closes by making the Russian move and playing the forehand comfortably for 4-3.

First really long exchange of the match, and as in the first game, the initial 15 goes to Medvedev. Then, another slow serve with a long return for 0-30 and another error on a long return gave Daniil the first three break points of the match. Jannik’s first few are poor for now (30%, none in this game), who still manages to cancel the first, but not the second.

Medvedev debuts at serve with an ace, followed by a forehand sent into the net after a deep, central ball from Jannik; then the second ace, and an error by the blue for 40-15. (Maria Strada) The former world no.1 Medvedev – who in the semi-final was able to come back from two sets with two tiebreaks against Sacha Zverev – is one of the most “unlucky” players in recent history in the Slams: born in Moscow l On February 11, 1997, he is in his sixth final and the previous five came against the “Big Three” players. Two years ago in Melbourne he was a short distance from beating Rafael Nadal 3-0, undergoing a sensational comeback, and he almost managed to overturn the same Majorcan in 2019 in New York.
