Jannik Sinner has made a splash in the tennis world by becoming the first player in 21 years who isn’t Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal to win the ATP Fans’ Favorite Singles Player of the Year award.
This success follows Sinner’s outstanding 2023 season, in which he won four ATP titles and posted an impressive record of 64-15 (81%). With his career-best ranking of fourth in the world rankings, he has established himself among the tennis elite.
“It was my best year so far and I’m proud of what I’ve achieved. This recognition from the fans means a lot to me,” Sinner said in an interview.
Auger-Aliassime: More than just tennis
Felix Auger-Aliassime was awarded the Arthur Ashe Humanitarian Award for his extraordinary commitment in Togo.
The young Canadian has made a name for himself not only on the tennis court, but also through his social commitment.
“When I found out I would be receiving the 2023 Arthur Ashe Humanitarian Award, I was pleasantly surprised.
You don’t help others to win awards. I know Arthur didn’t either,” Auger-Aliassime explained. He emphasized the importance of Ashe’s legacy and his own understanding of social responsibility: “The way my father raised me was always to be aware of the opportunities I had and to make the most of them.
When I see people who have no opportunities, I have to do my best to give them hope and a dream to cling to.”
Rublev and Khachanov as fan favorites in doubles
Russian duo Andrey Rublev and Karen Khachanov were also honored and named ATP Fans’ Favorite Doubles Team of 2023.
They represent the sixth team to receive this recognition since its inception in 2005. These awards not only underline the players’ sporting achievements, but also their commitment off the pitch.
Sinner, Auger-Aliassime and the doubles team Rublev/Khachanov exemplify the versatility and commitment of today’s tennis generation.
