Jannik Sinner: Italian Wins Semifinals and Competes for Undefeated Maxi-Prize at ATP Finals

Sinner vs Medvedev 6-3 / 6-7 / 6-1 The Italian wins the match and goes to the final – LIVE

Tomorrow afternoon he will face the winner of the match between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic. Never before had an Italian reached the final of the tennis ‘Masters’ tournament.

Today’s match was a remake of the finals of the Beijing and Vienna tournaments in 2023: in both cases the Russian’s resistance was broken by the blue’s pounding play. In the previous six matches, however, Medvedev has always won (the record is 6-2).

While the countdown marks the minutes remaining until the most awaited match of the day, at the Pala Alpitour in Turin it is orange is the dominant colour. Jannik Sinner will take to the field to compete for access to the final of the Nitto ATP Finals against the Russian Daniil Medvedev, in what is also a bit of a rematch of the match played two years ago, at the first edition of the Finals. The now ever-present Carota Boys went crazy in the Turin arena, and in recent days they launched an appeal to the fans to flood the stands with orange. Many those who accepted the invitation, wearing t-shirts or wigs but also showing orange signs with phrases praising the Italian champion. And there were also those who, in addition to the themed clothing, also brought a basket of carrots. The Minister of Economy Giancarlo Giorgetti and the President of Coni Giovanni Malagò are expected to attend the match in the stands.

Unique Sinner competing for ‘undefeated’ maxi-prize

A success on the field, a growing notoriety, and also the inevitable economic return: Jannik Sinner is the only player competing at the ATP Finals in Turin who can still win the 4.8 million dollars expected from the prize money for the eventual “undefeated” winner. All the other three semi-finalists – the Serbian Novak Djokovic, the Russian Daniil Medvedev and the Spanish Carlos Alcaraz – have in fact lost at least one match during the tournament. The total prize pool amounts to $15 million. For now Jannik has collected $1.1 million for the three victories in the qualifying round ($390,000 each), in addition to the participation fee for playing three matches ($325,500). The victory in the semi-final is worth 1.1 million dollars, the victory in the final is 2.2 million dollars. Thus the earnings for the young Italian player are rising, whose value as a testimonial – beyond the prizes on the pitch – as a testimonial is growing day after day, so much so that external observers already estimate a brand-Sinner to be around 20 million per year . Figures obviously destined to grow after the Finals, and above all in the event of further successes between tomorrow and Sunday. In terms of the ATP rankings, however, the Italian is currently in fourth place with 6,090 points and can rise in Turin to a maximum of 6,990, remaining behind the third place occupied by Medvedev, at 7,600 points (first Djokovic with 10,345, second Alcaraz with 8,855). The Finals regulations provide 200 points for each victory in the group, 400 points for the victory in the semi-final, 500 points for the victory in the final.
