Comedian and entrepreneur Janne Kataja has received a notice from the Advertising Ethics Council for his Facebook post.
Kataja had advertised the film on his Facebook page in April Yes, dad can.
Kataja is a partner in the film’s production company and he acts in that film. According to the council, the publication contains the text “Yes Father Is Part! Will you come to the movie?” Below the text is the bioRex logo against a blue background, which reads “Biorex.fi Yes Father Can – BioRex Cinemas The awaited return of the beloved family!
According to Kataja’s answer, it is a common practice on Facebook for performers to share information about their gigs, theaters about their shows and, for example, TV presenters about their programs.
The Advertising Ethics Council emphasizes that the marketing of one’s own company must also be recognizable as marketing and, if necessary, the advertisement must be marked as an advertisement.
The council says that an ad is often recognizable as an ad without an ad identifier if the ad is published on the company’s own Facebook account, where only commercial content is published and the account name is the same as its commercial identifier. Kataja’s publication was published on her personal account.
According to the council, consumers often look at advertisements by glancing at them superficially. Especially when an ad is posted on a social media account that has both personal posts and ads, it is often difficult for the consumer to recognize the ads from other content.
