The 85th birthday of the outstanding Latvian poet Jānis Peters will be celebrated with a large concert at the “Lielais dzintars” concert hall in Liepāja on July 6 this year at 18.00
“With this concert, we want not only to please music and poetry lovers, but also to highlight new facets and dimensions in these cultural pearls that have stood the test of time and won popular recognition,” the organizers of the event reveal.
Popular songs by R.Paul, U.Stabulnieks, I.Vigners and other composers with words by Jānis Peters will be played at the concert. As a gift for the anniversary, the premiere of a new work created by Jānis Ivuškānas especially for this anniversary concert is planned.
At the concert, not only Baltic Groove Orchestra under the direction of conductor Jānis Ivuškāns, but also Liepāja mixed choir “Laiks” (conducted by Ilze Balode), rhythm group, well-known and beloved soloists – Daumants Kalniņš, Elza Rozentāle, Antra Stafecka, Zigfrīds Muktupāvels – will take the stage.
Actors Egons Dombrovskis and Signe Dancīte will take on the role of concert leaders.
The well-known poet, publicist, public worker and diplomat Jānis Peters was born on June 30, 1939 in Priekule. J. Peters has gained public recognition as the author of popular lines of poetry, the creator of countless popularly loved and sung song lyrics.
The purpose of this anniversary concert is to celebrate his contribution to the world of Latvian poetry and music, to honor the talent that came from Kurzeme, giving pleasure to music listeners and enriching the heritage of music and art history.
