As reported, disagreements between board members began with differing positions on Covid-19 issues.

The Latvian Association of Young Doctors (LJĀA) has pointed out that “the choice of the LĀB Board to ignore the crisis situation is clearly felt”, as a result of which the organization has decided to terminate the cooperation with the LĀB until the next general meeting of members. Consequently, the representative of LJĀA Rācenis also resigned from the board of LĀB.

The former vice-president of LĀB, Fūrmanis, also resigned. He has stated that he is resigning from a society “whose management has lost contact with colleagues and practical medicine and which is not interested in the necessary changes for the LAB and doctors to regain public confidence”.

At the beginning of November, a proposal to hold early elections of officials was rejected at an extraordinary meeting of the LAB, which was convened at the request of former Vice President Fūrmanis.

LĀB was founded in 1988. The aim of the Association is the continuous improvement of the health care system and the qualification of doctors, the protection of the legal, professional and economic interests of Latvian doctors, the promotion of public health, the improvement of the health care organization, the improvement of the medical education system and the control of ethical principles.-
