“The memory of the late actor Jang Jin-young is engraved at Wooseok Academy.”
Woosuk University announced on the 5th that Jang Gil-nam, the father of the late actor Jang Jin-young and chairman of the Gyeam Scholarship Foundation, donated 500 million won to Woosuk Academy, a school corporation.
Chairman Jang has continued to do good deeds after establishing the Gyeam Scholarship Association with 1.1 billion won of his own money in honor of the wishes of his daughter who passed away in March 2010.
The donation ceremony held in the conference room of the main building of Woosuk University on the 4th was attended by Gil-nam Jang, Chairman of the Gyeam Scholarship Society, Chang-hoon Seo, Chairman of the Woosuk Academy, and President Emeritus Young-dal Jang.
Wooseok Academy presented a plaque of appreciation to Chairman Jang. Additionally, scholarships worth 1 million won were awarded to five students.
To honor the wishes of Chairman Jang Gil-nam, Woosuk Academy named the regional cooperation seminar room on the first floor of the Jeonju Campus Liberal Arts Hall as ‘Gyeam Jang Gil-nam Hall’ and plans to hold events such as laying flowers and writing letters at the Jang Jin-young memorial hall every year.
Chairman Jang Gil-nam said, “I hope that my daughter’s wishes, which she desperately wanted while she was alive, will be conveyed,” and “I hope for the development of Woosuk Academy, which is leading the way in student education and contributing to the local community.”

Meanwhile, the late actor Jang Jin-young debuted in the entertainment industry after being selected as Miss Korea Chungnam Jin in 1992. He became famous by appearing in the movies ‘Singles’, ‘Scent of Chrysanthemums’, ‘Blue Lotus’, and ‘Entertainment, the Unbearable Lightness’, but died of stomach cancer in 2009.
On August 30, 2019, Chairman Jang visited Imsil County Office and donated 100 million won in scholarship money to commemorate the 10th anniversary of his daughter’s death. Imsil is Chairman Jang’s hometown and where Mr. Jang sleeps.
Previously, Chairman Jang opened the Jang Jin-young Memorial Hall in Gyeam-ri, Unam-myeon, Imsil, in May 2010. Gyeam Scholarship was named after Gyeam-ri, Unam-myeon, and it is known that Mr. Jang’s remains are buried in Seonsan, Unam-myeon.
