BOSTON (AP) — A fight between members of the alternative rock band Jane’s Addiction was caused by “tensions and animosity” during their reunion tour, the wife of frontman Perry Farrell said Saturday.
The group is known for their punk hits such as “Been Caught Stealing” and “Mountain Song” from the late 1980s and early 1990s, when the alternative rock and grunge music movements were on the rise.
In videos posted on social media from Friday’s Boston concert, Farrell, 65, can be seen singing loudly into his microphone before lunging at guitarist Dave Navarro, pushing him by the shoulder and then punching him with his right hand. Navarro is also seen extending his right arm to keep Farrell away, and then people are seen pulling the vocalist off the stage. The concert ended a short time later.
“Perry’s frustration has been growing, night after night she felt like the volume on stage was too loud and the sound of the band drowned out her voice,” Etty Lau Farrell said in an Instagram post Saturday morning.
She added that her husband was suffering from tinnitus and a sore throat and “towards the end of the song, he wasn’t singing, he was screaming just to be heard.” She added that her husband subsequently collapsed “and cried and cried.”
The band kicked off the “Imminent Redemption” tour in early August and has 15 dates remaining, including a show Sunday night in Connecticut.
The group has yet to issue a statement regarding the future of the tour.
