Jan Werich is one of our most famous and respected theatrical and film legends, even though he has not made many films due to his political situation. But he was a very wise and well-educated man with a tremendous dose of humanity. Many of his quotes went down in history.
He became widely known together with his very good friend Jiří Voskovec in the second half of the 1920s. From 1927 to 1938, they became the main characters of the Liberated Theater and literally the idols of the youth of that time. Voskovec and Werich spent the Second World War in exile in the USA, and after 1945 they tried to follow up where they had to end in 1938. Unsuccessfully, and therefore Voskovec decided to emigrate for the second time, Werich stayed at home. In the new unfree conditions, he lived and worked hard. In the field of film, Werich rarely found employment.
