Jan van Halst’s Departure from Ajax’s Supervisory Board: Changes in the Board and New Nominations

NOS Voetbal•vandaag, 20:03

Jan van Halst will not return to the Supervisory Board after his period as interim director of Ajax. He informed the current supervisory board of this, the Amsterdammers said in a press release.

Van Halst believes it is “not fair” to take up a supervisory position again in March 2024, when his period as director ends.

Pro ShotsJan van Halst will no longer return to Ajax’s supervisory board

Van Halst took a seat on the Supervisory Board of Ajax in May, until he was appointed interim director in September. Ajax said at the time that it hoped the former footballer would return to the supervisory board when the new director, Alex Kroes, would start. So that doesn’t happen.

It is not yet clear whether Van Halst will be given another position within Ajax.

Van Praag and Van Wijk officially nominated

Because Pier Eringa will formally resign as chairman of the supervisory board tomorrow, two gaps will arise. These are filled by Michael van Praag and Leo van Wijk. They were officially nominated today. The intention is for Van Praag to take over Eringa’s chairmanship.

Van Praag and Van Wijk are two experienced sports administrators with ‘Ajax DNA’. They must help to solve the administrative problems. The other places in the supervisory board are now occupied by Annette Mosman, Georgette Schlick and Cees van Oevelen.

Ajax’s turbulent week: changes in the supervisory board and two canceled matches

Van Praag (76) was chairman of Ajax for fourteen years from 1989 to 2003. During that period he achieved great success with the club, with the final victory in the Champions League and the Club World Cup in 1995 as a highlight. He then became chairman of the KNVB, was on the board of UEFA and competed for the position of chairman of the world football association FIFA.

Van Wijk (76) also has a lot of managerial experience at the Amsterdam club. The former CEO of KLM became a member of the Supervisory Board after Cruijff’s ‘velvet revolution’. He was even chairman from 2018 to 2020. Two years ago he was also appointed an honorary member of the club.
